On the agenda today:

Reunion 2008:

All is on schedule and a detailed plan is being developed. The 3rd day, our trip into the Elbsandstein Mountains, may be a problem since it involves a 2 1/2 hour walk up the mountain and several of us may not be able or not willing to endure that. I know that there is a solution and I just have to find it. In the meantime click on the hand below and take a look at those mountains:

ARBORNA

ARBORNA once again has tried to convince Bosch that a COLA adjustment is overdue.

Below is a copy of the letter that was send to Bosch Germany by ARBORNA on behalf of the Bosch USA retirees.

Dr. Hermann Scholl                         April 30. 2008 Chairman, Supervisory Council

Robert Bosch GmbH

P.O. Box 106050

D-70049 Stuttgart

Germany

Dear Dr. Scholl:

We are writing to you today on behalf of the "Association of Robert Bosch Retirees in North America" (ARBORNA), who represents almost 700 associates who dedicated their careers to ensuring our company's early success in North America.

Our group represents many of the "early pioneers" for Bosch in North America, beginning their careers in the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, etc, and who gladly gave their all to help our company re-establish itself in this important market. Some of our members fondly remember working alongside a young engineer from Stuttgart named. Dr. Hermann Scholl, who came to Broadview to work on the first "FFI-D-JETRONIC" product launch in the late 1960's.

Dr. Scholl, our members have a tremendous amount of respect for you and for our past chairman, Mr. Hans Merkle, and what you both accomplished over the years for our company. We also believe you are a man that still holds close to his heart the philosophy and the social responsibility spoken and endowed in the writings of our founder, Mr. Robert Bosch. Beliefs that talked about "justice and fairness" and living by convictions in doing "what he believed was right". With this in mind, our group is writing to you today requesting your compassionate and personal intervention concerning our group's ongoing request for a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) to our Pension Program from the management of Robert Bosch LLC. Numerous requests for a reinstatement of periodic COLA adjustments have been denied by Robert Bosch LLC in recent years, including our most recent request. This latest denial was quite disheartening to Bosch retirees, since new and compelling information was provided illustrating our company's previous commitment to providing COLA adjustments. Thus, we are humbly seeking your counsel in the name of "justice and fairness" and doing "what is right" as our founder and we believe you personally live by in leading our great company. Thank you very much for your consideration.

Signed:            Klaus Kobelentz        Robert Burham

Cost of Living Adjustment

Dear Klaus and Robert:

This letter is to inform you that Dr. Scholl has received your letter dated April 30, 2008, requesting a cost of living adjustment to your pension benefit. Your request was discussed at the Robert Bosch LLC Board of Directors (Board Meeting held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008).

The Board sincerely values the many contributions our retirees have made to the success of Bosch in North America and gave serious consideration to your request, however, the Board decided against granting a cost of living adjustment.

The Board asked me to find a convenient time in the next month or so to personally meet with you to convey to you in further detail their decision. I will ask Gary Grabarczyk's assistant, Marian Cribaro, to contact you to arrange a meeting time.

Yours sincerely

Signed: Charlie Ackerman

Vice President, Human Resources

The Irongeezer Chronicles:

IrongeezerSays™ The “Free” Way of Your Life:

By Tatjana and Cliff Eggink

As we get older, it is strange that snippets of songs and poems return to our minds with new meaning: Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” and Frank Sinatra’s “I did it my way” dropped in unexpectedly, after reading an article about the prevalence of regrets in people of a certain age. We will call this the “would’ve-could’ve-should’ve syndrome.”

It seems that many people, 40 on up, are afflicted. What’s a 40 something to do when regrets keep him awake at night, ruminating? The solution seems clear. The prescription is action! It is never too late to do most things you wished you had done, although it may not be possible to do them precisely as you had envisioned. Pick something you always wanted to do – be an athlete, be a “parent” to a kid, be a student, be in your dream job, be a great friend or romantic mate, etc, then find a way to express that today, now, and not a moment later because time is finite. “Time’s Winged Chariot,” and all that, but that’s another poem.

Anyway, it may also help to remember that life in a free country offers an endless variety of possibilities to actualize your dreams; you know, the wishes that your heart desires. If you choose one avenue, one road to get there, though that also means that you may have by-passed another. Your choice can alter the outcome of your dream, taking you another direction on this strange, exciting trip that is our life.

Finally though, as you “face the final curtain,” you may still have a few twinges of things undone, but, if you begin today to choose to have the will to do, to act, to participate: Do that one thing that makes your heart sing and your spirit soar because you can and you should. Do it your way, today!

Share the dreams that you have put into action with us: irongeezer@irongeezer.com

I did not get any Vents from our Oldtimer and Retirees but here are some that I found:

They might have $6 gas in Amsterdam, but they also have great public transportation, a very walkable city and tons of bikes. Oh yeah, and the only fat person I saw there 2 weeks ago was me.

I think it is shameful that the Democrats are spending hundreds of millions of Dollars on the presidential campaign when all that money could be used to help the poor.

Every elementary school science student in America learns that the ultimate source of energy for life on Earth is the sun. When we ask ourselves what to do about the energy crisis, we might try looking over our shoulder at the obvious.

It’s silly to worry about not being able to afford the gas to get to work. You’re probably going to get laid off anyway before your gas runs out.

Will all the Democrats who hate Busch so much give their rebate check back to the government please? No, why not?

My husband is getting so old that I carried him to the “Antique Roadshow” to be appraised. None of the appraisers could agree on what he was worth. What a disappointment, I was ready to hit the road.
